BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1777 FAX: (517) 373-5871 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 6, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Agriculture was scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary was as follows: 1. Adopted the (S-1) version of SB 174 (Sen. Daley). 2. Adopted the (S-1) version of SB 181 (Sen. Lauwers). 3. Adopted the (S-1) version of SB 182 (Sen. McBroom). The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Ananich, and Polehanki; a quorum was present. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Victory to adopt the meeting minutes from March 7, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SBs 174 and 179-183: Dr. James Averill, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development – Neutral Beatrice Friedlander, Attorneys for Animals – Oppose Molly Tamulevich, Humane Society of the United States – Oppose The Chairman read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify regarding SBs 174 and 179-183: Rebecca Park, Michigan Farm Bureau – Support Mary Kelpinski, Michigan Pork Producers Association – Support Thomas Gilpin, Michigan Sierra Club – Oppose Doug Roberts, United Deer Farmers of Michigan – Support The Chairman offered an (S-1) version to SB 174. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Ananich to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 174. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Ananich, and Polehanki. Nays: None. Page 1 of 2 The motion prevailed and the substitute was adopted. The Chairman offered an (S-1) version to SB 181. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Victory to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 181. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Ananich, and Polehanki. Nays: None. The motion prevailed and the substitute was adopted. The Chairman offered an (S-1) version to SB 182. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Lauwers to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 182. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Ananich, and Polehanki. Nays: None. The motion prevailed and the substitute was adopted. There being no further business before the committee, the Chairman moved to adjourn the committee.
