BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES January 30, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 526 (Sen. McBroom). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4315 (Rep. Mueller). 3. Testimony regarding HB 4316 (Rep. LaGrand). 4. Testimony regarding HB 4712 (Rep S. Johnson). 5. Testimony regarding HB 4713 (Rep. Miller). 6. Testimony regarding HB 5103 (Rep. Wakeman). 7. Testimony regarding HB 4509 (Rep. VanSingel). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lucido, Sen(s). VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from January 16, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Sen. McBroom to summarize SB 526. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 526: Darin Hunter, Escanaba Department of Public Safety – Support The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 526: Blaine Koops, Michigan Sheriffs Association – Support Brandon Lanyon, Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan – Support Stephanie Johnson, Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police- Support The Chair brought up HB's 4315 – 4316 and invited Rep. Mueller to summarize the bills.
