BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2426 FAX: (517) 373-2964 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 5, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Families, Seniors and Veterans was scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at 3:00 p.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SR 91 (Sen. Lucido) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Presentation by JooYeun Chang, Children's Services Agency Executive Director, MDHHS on the Overview of Sec. 588 - Children's Rights Settlement Termination Plan The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Runestad, Johnson, Zorn, Bullock and Alexander, a quorum was present. At 3:01 p.m., the Chair recessed the committee. At 3:02 p.m., the Chair reconvened the committee. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bullock to adopt the meeting minutes from January 22, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SR 91: Scott Ray, Office of Senator Peter Lucido – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SR 91: Rev. Dr. Jennifer L. Smith, Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of MI and Auxiliary – Support Fred Schaible, DMVA – Support Danielle Jones, National Guard Association of Michigan – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to report SR 91 to the floor with recommendation that it be adopted. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sens. Runestad, Johnson, Zorn, Bullock, and Alexander. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the resolution was reported. Page 1 of 2 The Chair invited JooYuen Chang, Children's Services Agency Executive Director with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to deliver a presentation on the Overview of Sec. 588 - Children's Rights Settlement Termination Plan. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Barrett was excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
