BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 19, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Insurance and Banking was scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5174 (Rep. Daire Rendon) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Presentation by the Department of Insurance and Financial Services on the Fraud Investigation Unit The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Lauwers, LaSata, Nesbitt, Daley, Barrett, Geiss, Bullock and McMorrow, a quorum was present. The Chair invited the following individuals from the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services to present testimony regarding the department's Fraud Investigation Unit. Karin Gyger, Legislative Director and Chief of Staff, Department of Insurance and Financial Services Randall Gregg, Senior Deputy Director and General Counsel, Department of Insurance and Financial Services The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Lauwers to report HB 5174 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Lauwers, LaSata, Nesbitt, Daley, Barrett, Geiss, Bullock, and McMorrow. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 5174. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McMorrow to adopt the meeting minutes from February 5, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Senator Horn was excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
