BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 20, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Advice and Consent was scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 12:00 noon., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. A hearing to consider the appointment of Mr. George K. Heartwell III to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:02 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lucido, Sen.(s) LaSata, Nesbitt, McBroom and Hertel, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Nesbitt to adopt the meeting minutes from the February 13, 2020 meeting. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Mr. Heartwell III to provide the committee with his introductory statement. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding the appointment of Mr. George K. Heartwell III to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission: Senator Jon Bumstead – Support Tom Lambert, Michigan Open Carry Incorporated – Oppose Matthew Gay, Citizen – Oppose The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding the appointment of Mr. George K. Heartwell III to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission: Nicholas Occhipinti, Michigan League of Conservation Voters – Support Mayor Joey Roberts, Citizen – Oppose The Chair acknowledged written testimony was submitted by the following individuals: Leon Hank, Citizen – Oppose Matthew Gay, Citizen – Oppose James Kennedy, Citizen – Oppose Craig Lancour, Upper Peninsula Youth Shotgun Sports Organization – Oppose Chris Sibley, Citizen – Oppose Michael Polavin, Citizen – Oppose Ted Irwin, Citizen – Oppose Ed Bolanowski, Speedy Blaze Products – Oppose Carl Herbers, Citizen – Oppose The Chair acknowledged written testimony was submitted by the following individuals: Michael S. Pomorski, Citizen – Oppose Tom Bannigan, Citizen – Oppose John Hartwin, Citizen – Oppose Tom Bolt, Citizen – Oppose Sid Rhodes, Citizen – Oppose Carl Herbers, Citizen – Oppose Dennis Bender, Citizen – Oppose There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the meeting.
