BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 26, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Advice and Consent was scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 3:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported the appointment of Mr. George K. Heartwell III to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission unfavorably. The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lucido, Sen.(s) LaSata, Nesbitt, McBroom and Hertel, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. LaSata to adopt the meeting minutes from the February 20, 2020 meeting. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding the appointment of Mr. George K. Heartwell III to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission: Rep. Matt Hall, 63rd House District – Oppose Bill Wood, West Michigan Environmental Action Council – Support Tim Minotes, Sierra Club – Support Bee Friedlander, Attorneys for Animals – Support Lauren Saper, Humane Society of Huron Valley – Support Bryan Burroughs, Trout Unlimited – Support Nick Occhipinti, Michigan League of Conservation Voters – Support Sean Hammond, Michigan Environmental Council – Support The Chair acknowledged written testimony was submitted by the following individuals: Mark Bartholomew, Citizen – Oppose Jim Felgenauer, Citizen – Oppose James Shiflett, Citizen – Oppose Sally VandenBrand, Citizen – Oppose The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. LaSata, seconded by Sen. Nesbitt, to report the appointment of Mr. George K. Heartwell III to the Natural Resource Commission unfavorably. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Lucido, Sen.(s) LaSata, Nesbitt, McBroom Nays: Sen. Hertel The motion prevailed the appointment was reported unfavorably.
