BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1636 FAX: (517) 373-1453 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 11, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Elections was scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5141 (Rep. Calley) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) McBroom, Lucido, VanderWall, and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McBroom to adopt the meeting minutes from February 13, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Meghan Koorndyk Mott, of Rep. Calley's office, to summarize HB 5141. The following cards were read in of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 5141: Tom Frazier, Michigan Townships Association – Support Adam Reames, Michigan Department of State – Support Bill Zaagman, Michigan Association of County Clerks – Support Bill Zaagman, Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to report HB 5141 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Page 1 of 2 Yeas: Chair Johnson, Sen.(s) Lucido, VanderWall, and Wojno Nays: None Pass: Sen. McBroom The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 5141. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
