BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 20, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room. A summary of the meeting is as follows: 1. Adopted the (S-1) version of SB 873 (Sen. Schmidt). 2. Adopted the (S-1) version of SB 875 (Sen. Schmidt). The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad and Daley, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from February 25, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bumstead to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 873. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, and Daley. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 875. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, and Daley. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony: Amanda and Jeffrey Harthoun, Bear Lake Schools – No Position Beth DeShone, Great Lakes Education Project – No Position The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Polehanki and Geiss were excused from the meeting. Page 1 of 2 There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
