BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 2, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at 12:00 noon, in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 873 (S-2) (Sen. Schmidt) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SB 875 (S-2) (Sen. Schmidt) with recommendation and immediate effect. 3. Reported SB 925 (S-1) (Sen. Theis) with recommendation and immediate effect. 4. Reported HB 4546 (S-1) (Rep. Kahle) with recommendation and immediate effect. 5. Reported HB 4547 (S-1) (Rep. Frederick) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:02 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki and Geiss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Polehanki to adopt the meeting minutes from May 28, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding Bill Miller, John Severson, Dave Cairy, Dave Krebs, Susan Townsend, and Chris Wigent, Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators – No Position The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report the (S-1) version of SB 873 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 873. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. Page 1 of 3 The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bumstead to report the (S-1) version of SB 875 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 875. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Daley to report the (S-1) version of SB 925 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 925. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. Sen. Horn offered an (S-1) substitute to HB 4546. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the (S-1) version of HB 4546. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to report the (S-1) version of HB 4546 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 4546. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. Sen. Polehanki offered an (S-1) substitute to HB 4547. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Polehanki to adopt the (S-1) version of HB 4547. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Bumstead, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss.
