BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1725 FAX: (517) 373-0741 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 23, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., in the Senate Hearing Room of the Boji Tower. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 956 (S-2) (Sen. Lucido) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Testimony regarding SB 855 (Sen. Daley). 3. Testimony regarding SB 758 (Sen. MacGregor). 4. Testimony regarding SB 809 (Sen. Stamas). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:36 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from June 18, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair offers, and summarizes, an (S-2) version of SB 956. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to adopt the (S-2) version of SB 956. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-2) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. LaSata to report the (S-2) version of SB 956 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, and Theis Page 1 of 3 Nays: None Pass: Sen.(s) Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 956 (S-2). Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair invited Sen. Daley to summarize SB 855. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 855: Barry Cargill, Michigan Home Car and Hospice Association – Support Michael Barner, Michigan Medicine Post Acute Care – Support Diane Thomson, Clinician Task Force – Support Don Clayback, National Coalition for Assistive Technology – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 855: Kimberly Cook, Numotion – Support Kim Beer, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation – Support Sara Grivetti, Disability Network - Michigan – Support Kort St. John, CareLinc Medical Equipment – Support The Chair invited Sen. MacGregor to summarize SB 758.
