BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7708 FAX: (517) 373-1450 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES July 22, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Energy and Technology was scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 3:00 p.m., in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 597 (S-1) (Sen. McBroom). The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:09 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, Outman, McCann, Brinks, and McMorrow, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from June 23, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair offered, and summarized, an (S-1) version of SB 597. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 597. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Bumstead, and Outman Nays: Sen.(s) Barrett, Brinks, and McMorrow Pass: Sen. McCann The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 597 (S-1): Mike Byrne, Michigan Public Service Commission – No Position Brett French, Upper Peninsula Power Company – Oppose Laura Sherman, Michigan EIBC – Oppose Charlotte Jameson, Michigan Environmental Council – Oppose Page 1 of 2 The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 597: Rodney Cole, DTE – Oppose Ed Rivet, Michigan Conservative Energy Forum – No Position Cathy Wilson, Consumers Energy – Oppose Missy Stults, City of Ann Arbor – No Position Nick Occhipinti, Michigan League of Conservation Voters – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 597: John Freeman, Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association – No Position Steve Murphy, Power Home Solar – Oppose Kirk Profit, City of Ann Arbor – Oppose Lisa Patrell, Washtenaw 350 – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 597 (S- 1): Andrew Varmeesch, Michigan Farm Bureau – No Position There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
