BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 2, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources was scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., in Room 403 of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4735 (Rep. VanSingel). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4736 (Rep. Cherry). 3. Testimony regarding HB 4737 (Rep. Love). 4. Testimony regarding HB 4332 (Rep. LaFave). 5. Testimony regarding HB 4313 (Rep. Howell). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Bumstead, Outman, Schmidt and McCann, a quorum was present. The Chair invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The Chair summarized the day's agenda. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bumstead to adopt the meeting minutes from July 29, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Rep.(s) VanSingel, Cherry and Love to summarize HB's 4735 – 4737. Member questions and discussion followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony via Zoom regarding HB's 4735 - 4737: Craig Brunet, Michigan Department of Natural Resources – Support Amy Trotter, Michigan United Conservation Clubs - Support Member questions and discussion followed. The Chair brought up HB 4332 and invited Rep. LaFave to summarize the bill. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony via Zoom regarding HB 4332: Craig Brunet, Michigan Department of Natural Resources – Oppose Chris Turek, Citizen – Support Not wishing to speak, but available for questions via Zoom, Amy Trotter, Michigan United Conservation Clubs – neutral. Member questions and discussion followed. The Chair brought up HB 4313 and invited Rep. Howell to summarize the bill. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4313: Jim Smith, Pheasant Initiative – Support. Member questions and discussion followed. Tom Shook, Pheasant Initiative – Support. Member questions and discussion followed. Carl Griffin, Pheasant Initiative – Support Brad Brunkin, Pheasant Initiative – Support Due to time constraints, the following individuals were unable to speak regarding HB 4313: Craig Brunet, Michigan Department of Natural Resources – Neutral Bill VanderZouwen, Pheasants Forever - Neutral Gary Pruden, Citizen – Oppose Amy Trotter, Michigan United Conservation Clubs – Support Mike Thorman, Hunting Dog Federation – Support Jim Ballard, Michigan Hunting Dog Federation – Support There being no further business before the committee, Sen.
