BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 27, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room, 3rd Floor, Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 798 (Sen. MacDonald). 2. Testimony regarding SB 1093 (Sen. Lucido). The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:32 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lucido, Sen (s). VanderWall, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from October 21, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Sen. MacDonald to summarize SB 798. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 798: Scott Teter, MI Department of Attorney General – Support David Knezek, MI Department of Attorney General – Support Daniel Hilker, Chalgian & Tripp – Oppose Jody White, Citizen – No position The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 798: Robert Kennedy, MI Guardianship Association – Support Alison Hirschel, MI Elder Justice Initiative - Support The Chair summarized SB 1093. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 1093: Tom Boyd, State Court Administrator – Support Aaron Stephens, Mayor, City of East Lansing – Support The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 1093: John Cooper, Safe and Just Michigan – Support Noah Smith, Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan – Support Matt Saxton, MI Sheriffs Association - Oppose There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
