BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2426 FAX: (517) 373-2964 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES December 1, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Families, Seniors, and Veterans was scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 3:00 p.m., in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 1222 (Sen. Bizon) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 1223 (Sen. Hollier) with recommendation. 3. Reported SB 1109 (S-1) (Sen. Brinks) with recommendation. 4. Reported SB 1110 (S-1) (Sen. Barrett) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:07 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn and Bullock, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Zorn to adopt the meeting minutes from November 10, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. Chair Bizon summarized Senate Bills 1222 and 1223. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 1222 and SB 1223: Marlon Brown, LARA – Support Mark Sutton, American Legion Department of Michigan – Support Fred Schaible, Michigan Department of Veterans Affairs – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to report SB 1222 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bullock to report SB 1223 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn, and Bullock. Page 1 of 2 Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 1109 and SB 1110: Mark Sutton, American Legion Dept of Michigan – Support Tim Greimel, AFSCME – No Position The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 1109. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 1110. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bullock to report the (S-1) version of SB 1109 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to report the (S-1) version of SB 1110 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Bizon, Sen.(s) Barrett, Johnson, Zorn, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Runestad and Alexander were excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
