BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7708 FAX: (517) 373-1450 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 2, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Energy and Technology was scheduled for Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Adopted the Energy and Technology Committee Rules for 2021-2022 Legislative session. 2. Testimony regarding SB 46 (Sen. Nesbitt). The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, Bizon, Schmidt, McCann, Brinks and Bullock, a quorum was present. The Chair welcomed Sen.(s) Schmidt, Bizon and Bullock as the new committee members on the Senate Energy and Technology committee At 2:05 p.m. Senator Barrett left the meeting and returned at 2:08 p.m. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the committee rules. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Bumstead, Bizon, Schmidt, McCann, Brinks, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the rules were adopted. The Chair invited Senator Nesbitt to summarize Senate Bill 46. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 46: Bob Hance, Midwest Energy – Support Matt Groen, Michigan Cable and Telecommunication Association – Support The following individuals and associations submitted testimony regarding SB 46: Jennifer Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards – Opposed Deena Bosworth, Michigan Association of Counties – Opposed Page 1 of 2 The following cards were submitted by individuals and associations not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 46: Mike Latvis, Wayne RESA – Opposed Judy Allen, Michigan Township Association – Opposed Jenifer Greenburg, Telecom Association of Michigan – Support Steve Shults, Bloomingdale Communications – Support David Randels, Oakland Schools – Opposed Patrick Fuclk, T-Mobile – Support Mike Krombeen, Kinexux, Networks Northwest, Lake Michigan College – Support Michael Watza, Protec MI – Opposed John Lindley, Switch – Support Gavin Goetz, AT&T Michigan – Support Mike Alaimo, Michigan Chamber of Commerce – Support Andrew Vermeesch, Farm Bureau of Michigan – Support Manny Lentine, Michigan Assessors Association – Opposed Aaron Keel, Michigan Department of Treasury – Opposed The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. McMorrow was excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
