BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7708 FAX: (517) 373-1450 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 9, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Energy and Technology was scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., in the Senate Hearing Room, Ground Floor, Boji Tower. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 46 (S-1) ( Nesbitt) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, Bizon, Schmidt, McCann, Brinks and Bullock, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Nesbitt to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 46. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, McCann, Brinks, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. At 2:06 p.m. Senators Horn and Schmidt entered the meeting. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 46 (S-1): Jared Fleisher, Rocker Fiber – Support Steve Schultz, Bloomingdale Communications – Support Judy Allen, Michigan Townships Association – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding Matt Miner, Clear Rate Communications – Support Alexa Kramer, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce – Support At 2:23 p.m. Senator Bizon entered the meeting. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report the (S-1) version of SB 46 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, Bizon, and Schmidt. Nays: None Page 1 of 2 Pass: Sen.(s) McCann, Brinks, and Bullock. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McCann to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. McMorrow was excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
