BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-6920 FAX: (517) 373-2751 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 11, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., in Room 403 of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follow: 1. Reported SB 14 (Sen. Zorn) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 15 (Sen. Zorn) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:03 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) Barrett, Runestad, and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to adopt the meeting minutes from March 4, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. At 9:04 a.m. the Chair recessed the committee. At 11:47 a.m., with all members present, the Chair reconvened the committee. The Chair summarized the agenda for the committee. The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB's 14 and 15: Noah Smith, Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan - Oppose. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to report SB 14 to the floor with recommendation that the bill pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson and Runestad Nays: Sen.(s) Chang and Irwin The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Barrett to report SB 15 to the floor with recommendation that the bill pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson and Runestad Nays: Sen.(s) Chang and Irwin The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 11:49 a.m. Date adopted by committee: 04/15/2021
