- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY REP. SARAH LIGHTNER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES The House Committee on Judiciary was called to order by Chair Lightner. The Chair requested attendance to be called: Present: Reps. Lightner, BeGole, Wozniak, Harris, DeBoyer, Johnsen, Schuette, Tyrone Carter, Hope, Breen and Scott. Absent: None. Excused: None. The Chair laid HB 4021 before the committee: The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4021, but did not wish to speak: Nathan Triplett, representing the State Bar of Michigan. Shawn Cecil, representing the Michigan Realtors. The following person submitted a card with a neutral position on HB 4021, but did not wish to speak: Jim Schaafsma, representing the Michigan Poverty Law Program. Representative Aragona offered the following amendment to HB 4021: 1. Amend page 6, line 28, after "To" by striking out "conduct a trial" and inserting "provide the rights and information at pretrial". Representative Wozniak moved to adopt the amendment to HB 4021. Aragona) A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled "Revised judicature act of 1961," by amending sections 5735 and 8511 (MCL 600.5735 and 600.8511), section 5735 as amended by 2004 PA 105 and section 8511 as amended by 2014 PA 124. Mueller) A bill to amend 1939 PA 288, entitled "Probate code of 1939," by amending section 16 (MCL 712A.16), as amended by 2023 PA 290. HB 4047 (Rep. Bierlein) A bill to impose civil liability and prescribe criminal penalties for the nonconsensual creation or dissemination of deep fake sexual images; and to provide for remedies. HB 4048 (Rep. Tsernoglou) A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled "The code of criminal procedure," by amending section 17b of chapter XVII (MCL 777.17b), as added by 2002 PA 28. Representative BeGole moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 19, 2025. There being no objection, the motion prevailed with unanimous consent.
