BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 13, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 9:30 a.m., in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room, 3rd Floor, Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Issuance of Letter of Subpoena to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:32 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Theis and Bizon, a quorum was present. Chair McBroom invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to adopt the meeting minutes from May 11, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Irwin was excused from the meeting. The Chair gave opening comments and outlined the meeting agenda. The Chair invited Emily Schwarzkopf, Director of Legislative, Appropriations, and Constituent Services, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to address the committee via Zoom regarding the Committees request for documents and the subpoena. Member questions and discussion followed. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to vote to issue, and have served, a subpoena to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services related to COVID-19 policies and information, including policies and information involving long-term, congregate care facilities. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Theis and Bizon Nays: None The motion prevailed. There being no further business before the committee, Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adjourn the committee at 9:46 a.m. Without objection, the committee was adjourned. Date Adopted by the Committee: 05/18/2021
