BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 26, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources was scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., in Room 403 of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follow: 1. Reported HB 4088 (Rep. Borton) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Bumstead, Outman, Schmidt and McCann, a quorum was present. The Chair invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bumstead to adopt the meeting minutes from May 19, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up HB 4088, and invited Rep. Borton to summarize the bill. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individual to present testimony regarding HB 4088: Amy Trotter, Michigan United Conservation Clubs – no position. Member questions followed. Craig Brunet, Michigan Department of Natural Resources – oppose. Member questions followed. Jared Duquette, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Chief, Wildlife Division – oppose. Member questions and discussion followed. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding HB 4088: Andrew Vermeesch, Michigan Farm Bureau – Oppose. Nancy Warren, Citizen – Oppose. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bumstead to report HB 4088 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Bumstead, Outman, and Schmidt Nays: Sen. McCann The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Schmidt to recommend immediate effect for HB 4088. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McCann to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 9:23 a.m. Date adopted by committee: 06.02.21
