BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-6920 FAX: (517) 373-2751 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 8, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follow: 1. Testimony regarding SB 473 (Sen. Victory). 2. Testimony regarding SB 474 (Sen. Moss). 3. Testimony regarding SB 475 (Sen. Horn). 4. Testimony regarding SB 476 (Sen. Ananich). 5. Testimony regarding SB 477 (Sen. Hollier). 6. Testimony regarding SB 478 (Sen. Runestad). 7. Testimony regarding SB 479 (Sen. Geiss). 8. Testimony regarding SB 480 (Sen. Johnson). 9. Testimony regarding SB 481 (Sen. Chang). 10. Testimony regarding SB 482 (Sen. Irwin). 11. Testimony regarding SB 483 (Sen. MacDonald). 12. Testimony regarding SB 484 (Sen. Bullock). 13. Testimony regarding SB 375 (Sen. Santana). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Chang to adopt the meeting minutes from June 3, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up SB's 473 – 484, SB 375, and made opening remarks to the committee. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB's 473-483 and SB 375: Attorney General Dana Nessel – Support SB's 473, 474, 477-483 Attorney General Dana Nessel – Support in concept SB's 475, 476, 479, 484 Todd Mutchler, David Kirk and Brian Lipe – Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police – Support SB's 473, 475, 478, 480, 481, 485; Oppose SB's 474, 476, 479, 482, 483; Neutral SB 477 The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB's 473-483 and SB 375: Paul Stankewitz, Michigan Catholic Conference – Support (in concept) SB's 473 – 476, 478, 480 - 484 Sgt. Nicole McGhee, Michigan State Police – Neutral SB 375 Due to senate session the following individuals were unable to testify regarding SB's 473 – 483 and SB 375: Grant Ha, Detroit Police Department – Support SB 375 Katrina Patillo, Detroit Police Department – Support SB 375 The Chair moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Barrett was excused from the meeting. The Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
