BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1777 FAX: (517) 373-5871 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 17, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Agriculture was scheduled for Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4603 (Rep. Joe Bellino) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Testimony regarding SB 494 (Sen. Daley). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Polehanki and Brinks, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion from Sen. Victory to adopt the minutes from June 10, 2021 committee meeting. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4603: Mike Frederick, MI Soybean Association – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Lauwers to report HB 4603 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Polehanki, and Brinks. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 4603. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 494: Rebecca Park and Laura Campbell, Michigan Farm Bureau – Support Tom Zimnicki, Michigan Environmental Council – Opposed Amy Trotter, Michigan United Conservation Club, MI Chapter – Support in concept Chuck Lippstreu, Michigan AgriBusiness Association – Support The Chair read in the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 494: Kelly Turner, Potato Growers Association – Support Page 1 of 2 Greg Bird, Michigan Vegetable Council – Support Scott Corrin, Dairy Farmers of America – Support Jim Zook, Michigan Corn Growers Association – Support Peter Ruddell, MI Allied Poultry Industries – Support Mary Kelpinski, Michigan Pork Producers – Support Mike Frederick, Michigan Soybean Association – Support Sheila Burkhardt, Michigan Milk Producers Association – Support Tim Minotas, Sierra Club – Michigan Chapter – Opposed Kristy Meyer, Freshwater Future – Opposed Margrethe Kearney, Environmental Law and Policy Council – Opposed John Klein, Environmentally concerned citizens of South Central Michigan – Opposed Tim Boring, Michigan Agriculture Advancement – Opposed Green Stone Farm Credit – Support Ashley Steffen, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Opposed There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
