BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 23, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4945 (S-1) (Rep. Hornberger) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Testimony regarding SB 380 (Sen. Irwin). 3. Testimony regarding SB 381 (Sen. Theis). 4. Testimony regarding SB 382 (Sen. Polehanki). 5. Testimony regarding SB 383 (Sen. Runestad). The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:07 a.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki and Geiss, a quorum was present. At 9:08 a.m., the Chair recessed the committee. At 9:08 a.m., the Chair reconvened the committee. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from June 16, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify regarding HB 4945: Sherri Boyd, Arc Michigan – Oppositon Sheryl Kennedy, Michigan Department of Education – Opposition Mark McWilliams, Disability Rights Michigan – Opposition Alicia Urbain, MAPSA – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report the (S-1) version of HB 4945 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 4945. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
