BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 29, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 8:00 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 644 (Sen. Schmidt) and SB 645 (Sen. Stamas). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Runestad, Daley and Polehanki, a quorum was present. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Horn and Geiss were excused from the meeting. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 644 and SB 645: Sen. Wayne Schmidt – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 644: Chris Glass, Education Advocates of West Michigan – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 644: Eric Hoppstock, Berrien RESA – Support Paul Hungerford, Gratiot-Isabella RESA – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 644 and SB 645: Dan Quisenberry, MAPSA – Support Beth Deshone, GLEP – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Runestad to adopt the meeting minutes from September 14, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
