BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 5, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 645 (Sen. Stamas) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SB 664 (S-1) (Sen. Schmidt) with recommendation and immediate effect. 3. Testimony regarding SB 460 (Sen. Theis). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:01 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki and Geiss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from September 29, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Daley to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 664. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 664: Alicia Urbain, MAPSA – Support Mike Latvis, Wayne RESA – Support David Randels, Oakland Schools – Support Sheryl Kennedy, Michigan Department of Education – Support Chris Glass, Education Advocates of West Michigan – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report SB 645 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. Page 1 of 2 The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 645. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report the (S-1) version of SB 664 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 664. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended.
