BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1760 FAX: (517) 373-3487 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 14, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Economic and Small Business Development was scheduled for Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 562 (Sen. Victory) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Testimony regarding SB 671 (Sen. Horn). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:01 p.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Horn, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Lauwers, LaSata, MacDonald, McMorrow, Geiss and Moss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from September 30, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Schmidt was excused from the meeting. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to report SB 562 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Horn, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Lauwers, LaSata, MacDonald, McMorrow, Geiss, and Moss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 562. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 671: Jared Fleischer, VP of Government Affairs, Rocker Mortgage – Support Bob Trezise, CEO, Lansing Economic Area Partnership – Support Kent Wood, Borealis Stragetic – Support Marty Fittante, CEO Invest U.P. – Support Page 1 of 2 The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 671: Mike Johnston, Michigan Manufacturers Association – Support James Hohman, Mackinac Center for Public Policy – Opposed Rusty Merchart, Economic Development Leaders for Michigan – Support Greg Bird, Michigan Economic Development Corporation – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
