BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES November 30, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5447 (Rep. Tate) with recommendation. 2. Reported HB 5448 (Rep. Hornberger) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:23 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Huizenga, Polehanki and Geiss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from November 9, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 5447 and HB 5448: Rep. Joe Tate – Support Rep. Pamela Hornberger – Support Don Tuski, College for Creative Studies – Support D'Wayne Edwards, Pensole / Lewis College of Business – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 5447 and HB 5448: Anne Beck, College for Creative Studies – Support Duane Tarnacki, Clark Hill – Support Jared Fleisher, Rock Ventures / Rock Family of Companies – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the committee rules. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Huizenga, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed. Page 1 of 2 The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to report HB 5447 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Daley, Huizenga, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None Pass: Sen.(s) Runestad. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report HB 5448 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Daley, Huizenga, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None Pass: Sen.(s) Runestad. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
