BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-6920 FAX: (517) 373-2751 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES January 27, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 626 (Sen. LaSata). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4821 (Rep. Beson). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:33 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Johnson, Wozniak, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the revised 2021-2022 Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety committee rules. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Johnson, Wozniak and Irwin Nays: None The motion prevailed and the rules were adopted. The Chair welcomed Sen. Wozniak to the Committee. At 8:39 a.m. Sen. Chang entered the meeting. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wozniak to adopt the meeting minutes from November 2, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up SB 626 and HB 4821 and invited Sen. LaSata and Rep. Beson to summarize the bills. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 626 and HB 4821: Via Zoom – Mike Sauger, Michigan Fraternal Order of Police - Support The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 626 and HB 4821: Matt Saxton, Michigan Sheriff's Association – Support Bree Anderson, MI Department of Technology, Management and Budget – Support Lydia Amaya, MI Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument Fund Commissioner - Oppose The Chair moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Barrett and Runestad were excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
