BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1760 FAX: (517) 373-3487 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES January 27, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Economic and Small Business Development was scheduled for Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 12:00 noon, in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4725 (Rep. Bezotte). 2. Testimony regarding SB 791 (Sen. Horn). 3. Testimony regarding HB 5295 (Rep. Hauck) and HB 5296 (Rep. Hertel). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Horn, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Lauwers, Schmidt, LaSata, MacDonald, Huizenga, Geiss and Moss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Moss to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. McMorrow was excused from the meeting. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from December 9, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Cindy Denby, of Representative Bezotte's office to summarize House Bill 4725. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4725: Mike Murphy, Livingston County Sheriff – Support Mike Sauger, Michigan Fraternal Order of Police – Support Steve Delie, Mackinac Center for Public Policy – Opposed Desmond Miller, Deputy Sheriff's Association of MI – Support Matt Saxton, Michigan Sheriff's Association – Support Ken Grabowski, Police Officer Association of Michigan – Support Deena Bosworth, Michigan Association of Counties – Opposed Chair Horn summarized Senate Bill 791. Page 1 of 2 The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 791: Rachael Wineland, Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency – Support David Worthams, Michigan Manufacturers Association – Support Wendy Block, Michigan Chamber of Commerce – Support The Chair invited Alex Porrett, of Representative Hauck's office to summarize House Bills 5295 and 5296. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 5295 and HB 5296: Mackenzie Jones, LARA – Neutral Dr. Erick Dimartino, Michigan Association of Chiropractors – Support Carl Alden, MI Association of Chiropractors – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
