BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 22, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 12:00 noon, in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Adopted (S-1) substitute and testimony regarding SB 107 (Sen. MacDonald). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4326 (Rep. VanWoerkom). 3. Testimony regarding SB 726 (Sen. Zorn). 4. Reported SB 777 (S-1) (Sen. Nesbitt) with recommendation. 5. Reported SB 778 (Sen. Brinks) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:09 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Huizenga, Polehanki and Geiss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from February 8, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 107. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Huizenga, Polehanki, and Geiss. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 107: Sen. Michael MacDonald – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4326: Rep. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to report the (S-1) version of SB 777 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, and Huizenga. Nays: None Pass: Sen.(s) Polehanki and Geiss. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Huizenga to report SB 778 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, and Huizenga. Nays: None Pass: Sen.(s) Polehanki and Geiss. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
