BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 8, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1300 room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Referred the Office of the Auditor General, Performance Audit Report, Office of Educator Excellence, Michigan Department of Education, March 2021, #313-0140-18 to the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness. 2. Referred the Office of the Auditor General, Performance Audit Report, Virtual Learning in Cyber Schools, Michigan Department of Education, September 2021, #313-0225-18 to the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness. 3. Presentation by the Michigan Corrections Organization. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Theis, Bizon, Wozniak, Irwin and Chang, a quorum was present. The Chair invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to adopt the meeting minutes from February 22, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to refer the Auditor General, Performance Audit Report, Office of Educator Excellence, Michigan Department of Education, March 2021, #313-0140-18 to the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Theis, Bizon, Wozniak, Irwin and Chang Nays: None The motion prevailed and the Audit Report was referred. Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to refer the Auditor General, Performance Audit Report, Virtual Learning in Cyber Schools, Michigan Department of Education, September 2021, #313-0225-18 to the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Theis, Bizon, Wozniak, Irwin and Chang Page 1 of 2 Nays: None The motion prevailed and the Audit Report was referred. The Chair invited Byron Osborn, President of the Michigan Corrections Organization, and Ray Sholtz, V.P. / Chief of Staff of the Michigan Corrections Organization to give the committee a presentation. Mr. Osborn and Mr. Sholtz presented the committee with information from the Michigan Corrections Organization regarding staffing at Michigan correctional facilities, staffing recruitment and retention, mandatory overtime, facility operations and safety among other topics. Member questions and discussion followed. Additional information was requested by the committee. There being no further business before the committee, Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen.
