BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1777 FAX: (517) 373-5871 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 12, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Agriculture was scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SR 139 (Sen. VanderWall) with recommendation. 2. Testimony regarding HB 5742 (Rep. Cambensy), HB 5743 (Rep. Steenland), HB 5744 (Rep. Alexander), HB 5745 (Rep. Borton), HB 5746 (Rep. Bezotte), HB 5747 (Rep. Posthumus) and HB 5748 (Rep. Filler). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers and Polehanki, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Victory to adopt the meeting minutes from April 14, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Lauwers to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Brinks was excused from the meeting. The Chair invited Senator VanderWall to summarize SR 139. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SR 139: Scott Swinton, MSU Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics – Support Bill Schwass, Farm Owner – Support Peter Conrad, Farm Owner – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SR 139: Rebecca Park, MI Farm Bureau – Support Sam Olsen, MI Food Processors Association - Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Victory to report SR 139 to the floor with recommendation that it be adopted. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, and Polehanki. Nays: None Page 1 of 2 The motion prevailed and the resolution was reported. Chair Daley invited Rep. Posthumus to summarize HBs 5742-5748. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HBs 5742 - 5748: Jamie Zmitko-Somers, MDARD Director of the Agriculture Development Division – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HBs 5742 -5748: Rebecca Park, MI Farm Bureau, MI Farm Bureau – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
