BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1725 FAX: (517) 373-0741 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 12, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy and Human Services was scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5875 (Rep. Kahle) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SB 1012 (S-1) (Sen. VanderWall) with recommendation and immediate effect. 3. Testimony regarding SB 614 (Sen. MacDonald). 4. Testimony regarding SB 812 (S-1) (Sen. VanderWall). 5. Testimony regarding HB 4075 (Rep. LaFave). 6. Testimony regarding HB 4076 (Rep. LaFave). The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:07 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, MacDonald, Theis, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from April 21, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to report HB 5875 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, MacDonald, Theis, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 5875. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair offered, and summarized, an (S-1) version of SB 1012. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 1012: Matt Dargay, Masters of Social Work Student at U of M – Support Payment for Placements at the University of Michigan – Support Page 1 of 3 Sherri Boyd, The Arc Michigan – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 1012. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, MacDonald, Theis, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to report the (S-1) version of SB 1012 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4075 and HB 4076: Teri Langley, Disability Network Michigan – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4075 and HB 4076: Jeremy Murphy, Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council – Support Brain Injury Association of Michigan – Support Michigan Brain Injury Provider Council – Support The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) LaSata and Brinks were excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
