BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 17, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1300 room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SJR O (Sen. Irwin). 2. Testimony regarding SB 997 (Sen. McBroom). 3. Testimony regarding HB 5659 (Rep. Yaroch). 4. Testimony regarding HB 5660 (Rep. Yaroch). The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Bizon, Wozniak and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Irwin to adopt the meeting minutes from May 10, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Chang and Theis were excused from the meeting. The Chair brought up SJR O (Sen. Irwin) and SB 997 (Sen. McBroom). The Chair invited Sen. Bizon to lead the committee while he and Sen. Irwin stepped to the testimony table and summarized SJR O and SB 997. Member questions followed. The Chair returned to his seat and moved onto HB's 5659 and 5660. The Chair invited Rep. Yaroch to summarize the bills. Member questions followed. The Chair returned to agenda items SJR O and SB 997 and continued receiving testimony. The Chair invited Ben Eikey from the Leven Center at Wayne State University to present testimony in support of SJR O and SB 997. Member questions followed. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wozniak to adjourn the committee at 2:39 p.m. Without objection, the committee was adjourned.
