BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1777 FAX: (517) 373-5871 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 26, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Agriculture was scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 8:15 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 977 (Sen. Daley) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Testimony regarding SB 802 (Sen. Hollier). 3. Testimony regarding HB 5588 (Rep. Clements) and HB 5589 (Rep. Puri). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Polehanki and Brinks, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Victory to adopt the meeting minutes from May 19, 2022 committee meeting. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 977: Ashley Steffan, MDARD - Neutral The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Lauwers to report SB 977 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Daley, Sen.(s) Victory, Lauwers, Polehanki, and Brinks. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 977. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair invited Senator Hollier to summarize Senate Bill 802. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 802: Cortney Collia, Anishinaabe Caucus – Support Page 1 of 2 Shannon Donley, Anishinaabe Caucus – Support Nichole and Moses Biber, Anishinaabe Caucus – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 802: Brendan Ringlever, Huron Band of Potawatomi – Support Ashley Steffan, MDARD – Support Ron Khoury, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians – Support Whitney Cravelle, Bay Mills Indian Community – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 5588 and HB 5589: Ashley Steffan, MDARD– Support Jacob McLaughlin, Office of Rep. Clemens – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
