BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1725 FAX: (517) 373-0741 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 26, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy and Human Services was scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5876 (Rep. VanWoerkom) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Testimony regarding SB 990 (Sen. Runestad). Due to Senate Session, the committee was delayed. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:39 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from May 12, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Davis Grimm, of Rep. VanWoerkom's office, to summarize HB 5876. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 5876: Sean Gehle, Trinity Health Michigan – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 5876: Marnie Triemstra, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs – Neutral The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to report HB 5876 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 5876. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. Page 1 of 2 The Chair invited Krista Vincent, of Sen. Runestad's office, to summarize SB 990. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 990: Dr. Abigail Ellsworth, Michigan Association of Naturopathic Doctors – Support Dr. Annalisa Behling, Michigan Association of Naturopathic Doctors – Support Dr. Mark Hamed, Michigan Academy of Family Physicians – Oppose Dr. Hallie Armstrong, Michigan Association of Naturopathic Doctors – Support The following cards were turned in of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 990: Elizabeth Kutter, Michigan Health and Hospital Association – Oppose Sierra Cameron, Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics – Oppose Dr. Lauren Owens, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists – Oppose Christine Shearer, Michigan Association of Health Plans – Oppose Kevin McKinney, Michigan Osteopathic Association – Oppose Jim Cavanagh, Michigan Radiological Society – Oppose Gabe Basso, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan – Oppose Scott Kempa, Michigan State Medical Society – Oppose The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Santana was excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
