BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1760 FAX: (517) 373-3487 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 9, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Economic and Small Business Development was scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 12:00 noon, in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 981 (Sen. Horn), SB 982 (Sen. Schmidt) and SB 983 (Sen. Huizenga). 2. Testimony regarding HB 6017 (Rep. Bellino) The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:02 p.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Horn, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Schmidt, LaSata, MacDonald, Huizenga, McMorrow, Geiss and Moss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McMorrow to adopt the meeting minutes from May 26, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Lauwers was excused from the meeting. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 981, SB 982 and SB 983: Maureen Kraus, Detroit Regional Partnership – Support Lansing Major Andy Schor – Support Bob Trezise, Lansing Area Economic Partnership – Support Mike Johnston, MI Manufacturers Association – Support David Guenther, Mackinac Center for Public Policy – Opposed John C. Mozena, The Center for Economic Accountability– Opposed Wendy Block, MI Chamber of Commerce – Support Greg Bird and Josh Hundt, MEDC – Support JoAnn Crary, Saginaw Future, Inc.– Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 981, SB 982 and SB 983: Page 1 of 2 Diana Rademacher, Americans for Prosperity – Opposed Kate DeVries, Economic Development Leaders for MI – Support Lisa Canada, MI Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights – Support The Chair invited Justin Carpenter, of Rep. Bellino's office, to summarize HB 6017. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 6017: Jen Rigterink, Michigan Municipal League - Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 6017: Nicole Nystrom, Rocket Mortgage - Support Peter Morman, Department of Treasury - Neutral Bob Trezise, LEAP - Support JoAnn Crary, Saginaw Future, Inc. - Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
