BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1725 FAX: (517) 373-0741 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES November 10, 2022 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy and Human Services was scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 1172 (Sen. Chang) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SB 1170 (Sen. VanderWall) with recommendation and immediate effect. 3. Reported SB 1171 (Sen. VanderWall) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:33 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana and Wojno, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from September 28, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Senator Chang to summarize SB 1172. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 1172: Taylor Ridderbusch, DNR – Support Chief Dave Shaw, DNR – Support Sergeant Damon Owens, DNR – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 1172: Sean Sorenon-Abbott, Michigan Health and Hospital Association – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to report SB 1172 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. Page 1 of 2 The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 1172. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. Chair VanderWall summarized SBs 1170 and 1171. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 1170. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to report SB 1171 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair VanderWall, Sen.(s) Bizon, Johnson, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, Santana, and Wojno Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for SB 1171. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) LaSata and MacDonald were excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
