BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7350 FAX: (517) 373-9228 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 25, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education was scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4166 (Rep. Matt Koleszar) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:31 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to adopt the meeting minutes from April 13, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to adopt the Damoose amendment #1 to the (H-1) version of HB 4166. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Sen.(s) Damoose and Johnson. Nays: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, and McDonald Rivet. The motion failed and the amendment was not adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4166: Peter Spadafore, Michigan Alliance for Student Opportunity – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to report HB 4166 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, and McDonald Rivet. Nays: Sen.(s) Damoose and Johnson. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
