BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7315 FAX: (517) 373-3126 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 24, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy was scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 31 (Sen. Cherry). The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:03 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the meeting minutes from April 26, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Sen. Cherry to summarize SB 31. Sen. Cherry offered an (S-1) version of SB 31. The Chair invited Sen. Cherry to summarize the (S-1) version of SB 31. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 31. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 31: Jemeela Maun, Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan – Support Melissa Sargent, Ecology Center – Support Taniccia Henry, Detroit Lead Parent Advocacy Group – Support Jackie Hernandez, Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan – Support Carin Speidel, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – Support (in concept) Page 1 of 2 The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 31: Ross Gavin, Michigan Environmental Council – Support Loretta Bush, Authority Health – Support Julie Cassidy, Michigan League for Public Policy – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
