BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2426 FAX: (517) 373-2964 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 6, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Agriculture was scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 148 (Sen. Polehanki) and SB 149 (Sen. Hertel). The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Shink, Sen.(s) Cherry, Singh, Polehanki, Daley, Victory and Hoitenga, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the meeting minutes from May 23, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Senator Polehanki and Senator Hertel to summarize SB 148 and SB 149. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 148 and SB 149: Blake Goodman and Barry Londeree, Humane Society of the U.S. – Support Tanya Hildendorf, Humane Society of Huron Valley and Michigan Pet Alliance – Support Molly Tamulevich, Attorneys For Animals – Support Dave Rubello – Support Traci Scarbrough, Canine Adventure – Support Joni Detwiler, self – Support Stephen Rupandalo, MICH Bio – Opposed National Anti-Vivisection Society – Support Pampered Paws Doggy Daycare – Support SBM Animal Law Section – Support Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 148 and SB 149: Page 1 of 2 Bee Friedlander, Attorneys for Animals – Support Amy Payne, self – Support Valerie Schey, self – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
