BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7315 FAX: (517) 373-3126 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 27, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy was scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 280 (S-1) (Sen. Singh) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 281 (S-1) (Sen. Singh) with recommendation. 3. Reported SB 287 (Sen. Daley) with recommendation. 4. Reported SB 384 (Sen. Hertel) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:34 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Webber to adopt the meeting minutes from June 20, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Klinefelt to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Santana was excused from the meeting. The Chair offered, and summarized, an (S-1) version of SB 280. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 280: Elizabeth Pitts, Pitts Michigan Dental Hygienists Association – Support Gabe Basso, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 280. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. Page 1 of 2 The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to report the (S-1) version of SB 280 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, and Huizenga Nays: Sen. Runestad The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair offered, and summarized, an (S-1) version of SB 281. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 281: Joseph Sullivan, Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Klinefelt to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 281. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Klinefelt to report the (S-1) version of SB 281 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to report SB 287 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. Cherry to report SB 384 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, and Huizenga Nays: Sen. Runestad The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
