BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-0142 FAX: (517) 373-3938 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 27, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Labor was scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4044 (Rep. Koleszar) with recommendation. 2. Reported HB 4233 (Rep. Churches) with recommendation. 3. Reported HB 4354 (Rep. Weiss) with recommendation. 4. Reported HB 4356 (Rep. Carter) with recommendation. 5. Reported HB 4357 (Rep. Hood) with recommendation. 6. Testimony regarding SB 165 (Sen. Cherry), SB 166 (Sen. McDonald Rivet) and SB 167 (Sen. Shink). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri, Cavanagh and Albert, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to adopt the meeting minutes from June 22, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4044, HB 4354, HB 4356 and HB 4357: Jerry Johnson, Calhoun ISD – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4044, HB 4233, HB 4354, HB 4356 and HB 4357: Ray Sholtz, Michigan Corrections Organization – Support Beth Kelly Byrd, SEIU Michigan – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to report HB 4044 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. Page 1 of 2 The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to report HB 4233 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. Cavanagh to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 165. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to adopt the (S-2) version of SB 166. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the (S-2) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 167. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
