BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2406 FAX: (517) 373-5679 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 27, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 397 (Sen. Cavanagh) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, Lindsey, Hoitenga and Damoose, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to adopt the meeting minutes from June 13, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Sen. Cavanagh to summarize SB 397. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 397: Amy Hovey and Jeff Sykes, Michigan State Housing Development Authority – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 397: Jessica AcMoody, Community Economic Development Association of Michigan – Support Brad Ward, Michigan Realtors – Support Dawn Crandall, Home Builders Association of Michigan – Support Jennifer Rigterink, Michigan Municipal League – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to report SB 397 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, and Damoose Nays: Sen. Lindsey Pass: Sen. Hoitenga The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. Page 1 of 2 There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
