BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7350 FAX: (517) 373-9228 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 12, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education was scheduled for Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4752 (Rep. Koleszar). The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:31 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to adopt the meeting minutes from June 20, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4752: Rep. Matt Koleszar – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Damoose to adopt the (S-1) version of HB 4752. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose, and Johnson. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4752: Rep. Matt Koleszar – Support John Thompson, Brighton Schools – Support Cody Inglis, Michigan High School Athletic Association – Support Mike Latvis, Wayne RESA – Opposition Anthony Estell, Office of Retirement Services – Neutral Alicia Urbain, Michigan Association of Public School Academies – Support Ray Hill, Resident – Support Erik Edoff, Christina Gibson, and Paul Bodiya, Macomb Superintendents – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4752: Page 1 of 2 Paul Liabenow, Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association – Support David Randels, Oakland Schools – Opposition Robert McCann, K-12 Alliance of Michigan – Opposition Trevor Bulmer, Comstock Park Public Schools – Support Howard Dashney and Katrina Morris, Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation – Support Sheryl Kennedy, Michigan Department of Education – Support Bob Kefgen, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
