BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7350 FAX: (517) 373-9228 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 19, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education was scheduled for Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4752 (S-5) (Rep. Koleszar) with recommendation. 2. Testimony regarding SB 500 (Sen. Polehanki). The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to adopt the meeting minutes from September 12, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McDonald Rivet to adopt the (S-5) version of HB 4752. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose, and Johnson. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-5) was adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4752: Mike Latvis, Wayne RESA – Neutral David Randels, Oakland Schools – Neutral Tammy Daenzer, Michigan Education Association – Support Neil DeSouza, Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget – Neutral The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to report the (S-5) version of HB 4752 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, and Damoose. Nays: None Pass: Sen.(s) Johnson. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported.
