BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2406 FAX: (517) 373-5679 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 26, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 382 (Sen. Chang) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 383 (Sen. Cavanagh) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:13 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, Lindsey, Hoitenga, and Damoose, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Shink to adopt the meeting minutes from September 19, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The following cards were turned in of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 382 and SB 383: Kyle Richard, The Rent is Too Damn High – Support Henry Duong, Rising Voices – Support Tabitha Zimny, Association of United Ways – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Chang to report SB 382 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, and Damoose Nays: Sen.(s) Lindsey and Hoitenga The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to report SB 383 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, and Damoose Nays: Sen.(s) Lindsey and Hoitenga The motion prevailed and the bill was reported.
