BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2426 FAX: (517) 373-2964 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 10, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Agriculture was scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 3:30 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 411 (Sen. Lauwers), SB 412 (Sen. Hertel), SB 413 (Sen. Cherry) and SB 414 (Sen. Cherry). The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:31 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Shink, Sen.(s) Cherry, Singh, Polehanki, Daley, Victory and Hoitenga, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the meeting minutes from September 26, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Senators Lauwers and Cherry to testify on Senate Bills 411, 412, 413 and 414. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 411, SB 412, SB 413 and SB 414: John Carlo, Northville Downs – Support Tom Barrett, Michigan Harness Horsemen Assoc., – Support Bee Friedlander, Attorneys for Animals – Opposition Byron Shunk, MI Thoroughbred Assoc – Support Joyce Janicky, resident – Opposition John Schut, MEFA – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 411, SB 412, SB 413 and SB 414: Michael Alaimo, Michigan Chamber of Commerce – Opposition John Shagonaby, Gun Lake Tribe – Opposition Jim Parinello, Teamsters Local 337 – Support Matt Breslin, Hollywood Casino at Greektown – Opposition Mike McCoy, Sault Ste.
