BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7888 FAX: (517) 373-2983 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 11, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Elections and Ethics was scheduled for Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4567 (Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou) with recommendation. 2. Reported HB 4568 (Rep. Karen Whitsett) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:31 p.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Moss, Sen.(s) Wojno, Santana, McMorrow, Chang, Camilleri, Johnson and McBroom, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to adopt the meeting minutes from October 4, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. At 2:33 p.m., the Chair recessed the committee. At 2:35 p.m., the Chair reconvened the committee. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4567 and HB 4568: Michelle Roberts, Disability Rights Michigan – Support HB 4568 Chris Semrinec, Michigan League of Conservation Voters – Support Diego Geheverri, Secure Democracy USA – Support HB 4568 Stephanie Kreuz, Heritage Action for America – Opposition The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to report HB 4567 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Moss, Sen.(s) Wojno, Santana, McMorrow, Chang, Camilleri, Johnson, and McBroom. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. Page 1 of 2 The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Santana to report HB 4568 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Moss, Sen.(s) Wojno, Santana, McMorrow, Chang, and Camilleri. Nays: Sen.(s) McBroom. Pass: Sen.(s) Johnson. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
