BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2523 FAX: (517) 373-5669 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 12, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Economic and Community Development was scheduled for Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 12:00 noon, in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 579 (Sen. Singh), SB 580 (Sen. Cavanagh) and SB 581 (Sen. Singh). 2. Testimony regarding SB 559 (Sen. McMorrow), SB 560 (Sen. Cavanagh), SB 562 (Sen. Cavanagh) and SB 561 (Sen. McMorrow). 3. Testimony regarding SB 569 (Sen. Moss). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McMorrow, Sen.(s) Cavanagh, Polehanki, Cherry, McDonald Rivet, Moss, Geiss, Victory, Lindsey and Webber, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to adopt the meeting minutes from October 5, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Senator Singh and Senator Cavanagh to summarize Senate Bills 579, 580 and 581. Member questions followed. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 579, SB 580 and SB 581: James Hohman, Mackinac Center for Public Policy – Opposed Brian Shoaf, Detroit Regional Chamber – Support Karen Johnston, Toyota – Support Mike Spence, Southeast MI Council of Governments – Support Jen Rigterink, MML – Support Amy Malmer, Metropolitan Affairs Coalition – Support Chair McMorrow and Vice Chair Cavanagh summarized Senate Bills 559, 560, 561 and 562. Member questions followed.
